Weight Loss & Weight Management Club

Years ago obesity was seen mostly as a cosmetic problem and people dieted to improve their appearance. Recently, the medical view has changed and being overweight is now seen as a public health problem.

In this country, the number of overweight children and adults has reached epidemic proportion. According to the American Obesity Association (AOA), obesity is a disease which affects almost one-third of the adult American population (approximately 60 million). "The number of overweight and obese Americans has continued to increase since 1960, a trend that is not slowing down. Today, 64.5 percent of adult Americans (about 127 million) are categorized as being overweight or obese."

Statistics list overweight as the second-leading cause of preventable death in the United States, after smoking. Being overweight increases the risk for a variety of serious diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, gallbladder disease, and several forms of cancer. According to the AOA, if maintained, weight losses as small as 10 percent of body weight can improve a person's health.

The goals of the Weight Loss and Weight Management Club are to help people to lose necessary weight, to realize the health benefits of weight loss, and to empower people to live their best dreams and their best life.

These goals will be accomplished through education, setting and achieving goals for successful weight loss, socialization, support, accountability, and weekly acknowledgement.

Through an established List Serve of people involved in this Club, daily affirmations will be sent and people will be encouraged to become sponsors for each another.

Everyone will be encouraged to go to the doctor and have a basic understanding of their lab work. Articles regarding health issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol will be posted.

We will learn about proper nutrition, exercise, and other necessary behaviors in order to make the life style changes we are seeking. We will post weekly recipes and welcome ideas from you in order to make this site a true resource for you.

We will also identify people who would be willing to hold weekly weight loss meetings in their area and in their home in order to further facilitate this behavior modification program. Groups will be formed according to geographical location and members will be able to communicate on the website.

Everyone will be able to visit this site, but only the people who actually belong to the Weight Loss and Weight Management Club will receive daily affirmations, have the ability to post your weight loss photos (before, during and target weight), and also receive special club membership incentives.
